We're really looking forward to showcasing a range of specially commissioned ceramics by designer and maker Anna Beam at Unlimited this Autumn.
Originally from Baltimore, MD Anna has been based in London since 2013. The majority of Anna's ceramics are hand built using slabs of clay. Inspired by mid-20th-century artists Anna's designs often begin life through a chaotic sprawl of paint and cut paper before being developed into 3D objects and prints.
A self-professed Luddite, Anna makes everything herself, enjoying the satisfaction of creating an object from start to finish. She uses a process of inlaying pieces of stained clay to create a surface decoration that mimics the paintings and paper collage that inspire the designs. This method is slow and time-consuming, and the process of turning flat slabs into 3D objects results in each piece being unique and slightly off-kilter!
She has collaborated with us at Unlimited to produce a gorgeous range of ceramics for us to showcase and purchase in our Brighton gallery - including large planters, vases, mugs and plates all in her very own signature style.
